BAIGU UNCLE · ORIGINAL DESIGN

Original Design

We do not add movement to wood at the end. We design each work through structure, balance, light, handwork, and repeated testing.

Movement begins with structure.

Design is not decoration

Design is not decoration added later.

For Baigu Uncle, original design does not begin with appearance alone.

A moving wooden work needs a reason to move. The structure has to hold the weight. The rhythm has to feel stable. The light has to belong to the object. The hand-finished details have to make it feel warm enough to stay in daily life.

This is why our works are not ordinary wooden decorations, and not simple mechanical toys.

The materials of movement

The parts that make wood move

Baigu Uncle works with wood, structure, motion, light, and handwork as one design language.

01

Wood

Wood gives each work grain, warmth, weight, and a quiet surface. It is not only the material, but the body of the work.

02

Structure

Structure decides whether movement can exist. Balance, proportion, joints, and weight all shape how a work moves.

03

Motion

Motion should not be loud. It should feel stable, gentle, and natural enough to stay beside you every day.

04

Light

When light appears, it softens the wooden form and changes the feeling of a desk, shelf, or bedside corner.

05

Handwork

Sanding, fitting, adjusting, and finishing decide the final distance between an object and a work.

Why the motion must be quiet

Why the motion must be quiet

Movement gives a wooden object presence. But not every movement belongs in a home.

If it is too fast, it becomes a toy. If it is too loud, it interrupts the room. If it is too exaggerated, it is easy to get tired of.

Baigu Uncle looks for a slower rhythm — motion that can be noticed, but does not demand attention.

From idea to moving work

From idea to moving work

An original work is shaped through scenes, structure, testing, hand finishing, and the question of whether it can belong in daily life.

01

Scene

A work often begins with a small scene: a flying pig, a floating bear, a jellyfish in motion, or a quiet light beside the bed.

02

Structure

The scene becomes proportion, balance, support, movement path, and material choice.

03

Testing

The first version is rarely final. Speed, angle, balance, noise, light, and stability are tested again and again.

04

Hand finishing

Edges, surfaces, joints, and small details are adjusted by hand so the work feels warm, not mechanical.

05

Daily placement

The final work should not only move. It should belong naturally on a desk, shelf, studio corner, or bedside table.

Original source

Original means more than appearance

Images can be copied. Product names can be copied. Page layouts can be copied.

But an original moving wooden work is built through design, proportion, testing, structure, material decisions, and time.
